It's the one of book covers I did for university project. The task was to create a covers for books about Seven Deadly Sins.
I thought of a sin as something truly ugly so I tried to express this ugliness in my artworks. Furthermore, it isn't meaningless gore, it's all about what the sin is, what part of a human body represents it and what happens to it if person sins.
The sin of Greed obviously deals with hands. You take and take and take and you'll never be satisfied with what you've got already. Moreover, in Russian we have this phrase "raking up hands" which means something like "greedy hands".
